Tax Initiative Discussion - May 15, 2024 

Alex Nguyen, the Oxnard City Manager, has requested a virtual meeting to discuss the Taxpayer Protection and Government Accountability Act with the members of the Oxnard Shores neighborhood. The meeting is scheduled for May 15, 2024 at 6:30PM.  The link for the Google Meet is:

This act will appear as an initiative on the November ballot and can have a substantial impact on how the state and local governments obtain revenue. Because of the complicated nature of this initiative and the strong feelings on both sides, we felt it was necessary to provide some background before the meeting to allow for an in-depth discussion on this issue.

 

Given the controversial nature of this initiative, it was difficult to find an objective article or paper on the issue. However, a meeting of the California State Teachers Retirement System (CALSTRS) held on May 2, 2024, included a discussion of the initiative. Although CALSTRS is opposed to this initiative, it provided several attachments that covered both sides of the issue.
